BUSIA DISTRICT COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2024

Today we commemorated #InternationalWomensDay2024 at Masafu Town Council Grounds with Hon.Nekesa Barbara Oundo, the National Resistance Movement - NRM Party Treasurer who graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

The Commemoration was under the theme "Count Her In;Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment" Hon. Nekesa shared on the principles of the NRM party; Pan Africanism, patriotism,Socio Economic transformation and democracy demonstrating the role of women in each of the four principles.
In her message she gave the background of International women's day tracing it from 8th March,1908 when women arose to protest against oppression and child labour in New York hence the international Women's Day.
She shared the benefits of educating the girl child and how the current government has taken the front stage in the entire Africa in ensuring women take the lead in development citing examples of Dr.Specioza Kazibwe who was first woman Vice president.
She cautioned the public to be vigilant about security and engage in productive activities.
The celebration was attended by Women Councils from the entire district, Political leaders at all levels,District Woman MP, Busia Municipality MP, Security operatives, Civil Society and District and sub County staff, press and Members from different communities.
